This is a slippery slope. AI-driven persuasion is already here—think personalized ads, chatbots that mimic empathy, and emotionally driven recommendation algorithms. But where do we draw the line between helpful influence and manipulation? Using AI to gently nudge healthier habits is one thing, but deploying it to exploit vulnerabilities (e.g., pressuring consumers into unnecessary purchases) crosses an ethical boundary. Regulation is crucial to prevent emotional AI from being weaponized for unethical persuasion.
